Diamond acquisition relies on in-depth expertise and precise indicators. Diamond valuation is based on the Rapaport, a professional tool used on the international market. It evaluates the diamond's quality criteria, commonly known as the 4Cs: weight (Caratage), clarity (Clarity), cut (Cut), and color/colorlessness (Color).
We purchase diamonds from 0.20 carats, mounted or unmounted, as well as investment diamonds, with or without a certificate. Solitaire, diamond ring or wedding band, earrings, pendants, etc.: all diamond-set jewelry can be appraised by Gemme advisors.
The different stages of the appraisal
We begin by confirming the nature of the stone using a diamond tester and a borazon rod. The emergence of lab-grown diamonds (or synthetic diamonds) on the market has forced us to intensify our expertise: the diamond is also tested in a specialized machine to confirm whether it is natural or not.
Next, the loose diamonds are weighed (4C-Carat) on a carat scale to determine their weight precisely. The stone's dimensions are measured using a special caliper, which allows us to measure the diameter and height to the nearest tenth of a millimeter, thus confirming the correct proportions of the diamond in relation to its weight (4C-Cut).
Next comes the diamond grading process, that is, assessing its clarity and color. The diamond's color (4C-Color) is assessed under white light using a calibration of witness stones. Inclusions (4C-Clarity) are examined under a 10x loupe or a binocular loupe if necessary.
Finally, the stone's fluorescence will be checked under a UV lamp.
Beyond the 4Cs, experts also assess the condition and age of your diamonds: modern cut, old cut, half-cut, expert cut, harmonious proportions. Your gemological certificates (GIA, IGI, LFG, HRD) are taken into account when evaluating your diamonds.
